The crocheted bead

Hi everyone, I thought I’d share this really simple way of making beads out of yarn. First of you’ll need some mercerized cotton or pearl cotton, and a hook sized anywhere from 1.5mm to 2mm. These are some types of yarn/thread that would be appropriate:

Light blue and light green is the bamboo viscose (highly recommended because of its texture and softness), emerald green is mercerized cotton and yellow and darker blue are the pearl cotton

You can make different sizes of beads following these simple patterns:

Size Large (depending on your choice of yarn and hook the size will vary):

1. 6 sc in a magic loop

2. 2sc in each stitch around (12)

3. 1sc, 2sc in next stitch, repeat until the last stitch (18)

4. 2sc, 2sc in next stitch, repeat until the last stitch (24)

5-7. sc in each st around (24)

8. 2sc, sc 2 stitches together (18)

9. 1sc, sc 2 stitches together (12), stuff your bead with a cotton ball or polyester foam filling

10. sc 2 stitches together (6), bind off and hide the end.

Voila the bead is ready, and what is happening in the pattern is the gradual crochet increase and decrease, very simple!

These are made out of mercerized cotton with a 1.65mm hook. There are all three sizes used in this piece.

Size Medium:

1. sc 6 in a magic loop

2. 2 sc in each st (12)

3. 1sc, 2sc in next st, repeat until the last st (18)

4-6. sc in each st around (18)

7. 1sc, sc 2 sts together (12), stuff your bead

8. sc 2 sts together (6), bo and hide the end

Size Small:

1. sc 6 in a magic loop

2. 2sc in each st (12)

3-5. sc in each st around (12), stuff your bead

6. sc 2 sts together (6), bo and hide the end

It’s also possible to do the extra large bead here, I just never needed one, but basically you would need to make an extra increase after the 24 sts to get to 30 sts or another one to get to 36 for a jumbo bead :) so in your pattern you would have to do the following to achieve this: after you got the 24 sts, next row would be 3sc, 2sc in the next all around, that would give you 30sts, and 4 sc, 2 sc in the next would bring you up to 36.

It is very easy to add a little fun to your bead by adding the glass beads randomly or in a pattern too!

Have fun creating! I hope this will inspire you guys, here are some of my works with the crochet bead:)
